History Department

The History Department was established in 2003. This department subjects its students to four years of study to obtain a bachelor's degree that enables them to work in governmental institutions. Students are equipped with the necessary skills and expertise for their professional future. The undergraduate study path is characterized by rigor and comprehensiveness, and includes lectures that provide students with comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental principles and essential details related to history and human civilizations. In addition to their specialization, students also study computer basics and the Kurdish language.

Description

The department is concerned with introducing students to different historical periods and human civilizations throughout the ages, with a focus on ancient, Islamic, modern, and contemporary history. In the later stages of the course, the curriculum deepens to provide students with the necessary knowledge and experience in historical research methods and critical analysis of historical sources and documents, helping them become experts in their field. The study system begins in mid-September of each academic year according to the university calendar and ends at the end of June. During the four-year academic courses, students must pass seasonal examinations and final tests each semester. The department provides students with opportunities for multidisciplinary research and study, based on major historical disciplines, to expand their academic and research horizons.

Objectives

The objectives are to prepare students to become qualified teachers for the secondary level in history. The college provides students with the fundamental principles of teaching history, in addition to psychological and educational subjects that address the methods and techniques of teaching the subject. The College of Education recognizes the importance of history as a field worthy of exploration to prepare future teachers capable of connecting the past to the present, and understanding the historical developments that have shaped the social and cultural fabric of our society. These experts are better able to develop historical awareness and instill values of civilizational belonging in their students, and provide a stimulating educational environment that helps them understand the present through studying the past.
