About the Department
The Department of Geography, part of the College of Education at the University of Duhok, was established in 2017 with a clear mission: to provide high-quality geographical education and train future educators.
The department offers a structured four-year (eight-semester) program, which culminates in a Bachelor's Degree in Education in Geography. This dual focus ensures graduates are equipped with a strong foundation in both physical and human geography, alongside the necessary pedagogical skills for teaching at the intermediate and secondary levels.
The curriculum places a significant emphasis on modern geographical tools, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing, preparing students for careers not only in education but also in environmental planning, urban development, and various governmental institutions. Through its educational and research activities, the department plays a vital role in advancing geographical knowledge and serving the developmental needs of the Kurdistan Region.
